Police: Homeless Woman Arrested for Making Over $12K in Purchases Using Fake Gift Cards

Third Squad detectives report the arrest of a homeless woman for a Grand Larceny that occurred in North New Hyde Park.
 
According to detectives, Sovanna Imani Durant, 23, while at Victoria's Secret, 1450 Union Turnpike, entered the store numerous times throughout the morning and into the afternoon and made numerous purchases using multiple credit cards as well as gift cards. Durant’s actions were eventually observed by a loss prevention manager. It was then determined that the credit cards and gift cards she used to purchase merchandise exceeding $12,000 were fraudulent.
 
Police were contacted and responded to the store where Durant was placed under arrest without incident.
 
A subsequent investigation revealed that the credit cards and gift cards used were indeed fraudulent recoded cards utilizing Victoria Secret account holder’s accounts.
 
Durant is charged with Grand Larceny 3rd Degree, five (5) counts of Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument 2nd Degree and Unlawful Possession of Personal Identification 3rd Degree. She was arraigned at First District Court, Hempstead.
 
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
