Centereach, NY - May 22, 2017 – When it comes to overall barometer of your well-being, there’s nothing more important than having a healthy set of choppers…especially if you’re a kid. The younger set of Centereach and its surrounding areas have long been neglected in this regard, but that’s all about to change with the recent grand opening of Dental Smiles 4 Kids.

Located at 7 Mark Tree Road, Dental Smiles 4 Kids is owned and operated by Dr. Tsivas Kourtsounis – or Dr. K, as he prefers to be called – and offers a wealth of pediatric dentistry experience and expertise to youngsters and – most importantly – their teeth.

Dr. K resides in Rockville Centre with his wife and his son, and owns other Dental Smiles 4 Kids locations in Astoria, Whitestone, and Ronkonkoma; however, he said, he will be spending the lion’s share of his time tending to his new Centereach office, getting to know the neighborhood and the families in it.

“Whenever we open up one of our pediatric dental offices, we do so because we see a need in the community for children to have a dental home,” he said. “Many of these children end up going to general dentist’s office, which is fine, but a pediatric dentist is a specialist only deals with children, infants, and toddlers. I'm able to give them the proper education, nutritional advice, and care that they truly need.”

Dr. K boasts some impressive credentials; he’s a graduate of the Maryland University Dental School and attended Mount Sinai Medical Center for Pediatric Dentistry. He's been serving other local communities for years, and now he's brought what he refers to as a "dental home" to the youth of Centereach.

Children – and a great many adults as well – often find themselves gripped with terror at the very notion of seeing a dentist; however, Dr. K's patients will quickly find those fears allayed once they step through his door. The Centereach office of Dental Smiles 4 Kids features a friendly and lush design depicting vibrant jungle environments and animals, with numerous wall-sized murals painstakingly rendered by a professional painter. The office features for four hygiene bays for cleanings, and four operatory rooms where children can get fillings and other treatments. Each room has multiple entertainment options to help set kids at ease, including television sets and video games.

“I chose this design specifically for my office to provide a relaxing atmosphere and to reduce kids’ anxiety,” he said. “I wanted to make this more of a playful environment. When you come into a sterile environment with single color walls, it could be a little stressful, so we found a great painter named Mary who has done work at our other offices. It’s a fun, soothing environment, and when kids come here they aren't scared…but if they are, the next time they come they're feeling a lot better.”

To mark the occasion of opening his Centereach office’s doors, Dr. K recently held a celebratory ribbon-cutting ceremony, replete with numerous politicians and civic leaders in attendance to help welcome their newest business to the neighborhood. Among them was Town of Brookhaven Councilman Kevin LaValle, who noted that the well-being of his constituents’ young is among his highest priorities.

“This is fantastic. Anything that we can do for the kids in our community is always a great thing,” he said. “Just walking around and looking at the Dental Smiles 4 Kids facility, I wish I was a little kid again with all of the toys and the new TVs. Obviously this facility is going to have many strong benefits to the community.”

Suffolk County Legislator Tom Muratore (R-4th District) echoed those sentiments, saying that the dental health of children is an often overlooked concern; one that Dr. K and his staff should be more than able to address.

“I want to Welcome Dental Smiles 4 Kids here to Centereach. It's the first pediatric dentistry clinic here in the district, and we all know it's important that we take care of our children, particularly their teeth,” he said. “From what I hear, we have a great dentist here in Dr. K, who's wonderful with children...he's got a great staff here, and from what I can see kids are going to be very comfortable while having their teeth taken care of. It's going to be a wonderful – and very entertaining – place to bring your children.”

Dr. K pointed out that the youth of Centereach were greatly underserved when it came to dentistry options focusing on children; as a matter of fact, the opening of his office represents the first such resource of its kind in the area, filling an important need in the community.

“Centereach doesn't have a pediatric dental office in the area. Sure, you can drive four, five miles to go somewhere else, but why shouldn't a community like this have a facility where kids can come and tour the place and get a proper education?" he said. “This is going to be great...I think the community needs it. We’ll be doing school tours, we’ll be providing information at fairs, and we accept and participate in most insurance plans, so we're going to be very accessible.”

While not only priding himself on being a dedicated and innovative dentist, Dr. K also surrounds himself with the very best in staff as well, ensuring that anyone that visits his office will receive top-notch, private office-style care at an affordable price.

“Basically, this is going to be a gorgeous office that really is going to serve the community, and honestly, working with kids is fun and exciting for me, personally,” he said. “We're very excited to serve the Centereach community and its surrounding towns.”
