Suffolk County Police Seventh Squad detectives are investigating a crash that killed a pedestrian in Shirley today.

Margrit Friedrichs, 76, of Shirley, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Shirley, NY - May 31, 2016 - Suffolk County Police Seventh Squad detectives are investigating a crash that killed a pedestrian in Shirley today.

Brian Engelman was traveling west on Roberts Road in a 2008 Dodge Ram pickup truck when he turned north onto William Floyd Parkway and struck a pedestrian on the crosswalk at approximately 3:05 p.m.

The pedestrian, Margrit Friedrichs, 76, of Shirley, was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner. Engelman stayed at the scene and was not injured.

The car was impounded for a safety check. The investigation is continuing. Detectives ask anyone who witnessed the crash to call the Seventh Squad at 631-852-8752.
