Elderly Lawrence Man Phone Scammed Out of Over $296,000, According to Police

The Robbery Squad reports the details of a Grand Larceny that occurred on Wednesday, May 15, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. in Lawrence.
 
According to detectives, a 76 year-old male victim received a phone call from an unknown person identifying himself as working for the Social Security Administration. The subject stated there was fraudulent activity under the victim’s name and he was being investigated. The subject told the victim that he should transfer all of his money into several different accounts and other funds that the subject provided, to which the victim complied. In total approximately $296,000.00 in US currency was transferred. The victim later found out his money was no longer available and contacted police. The incident is under investigation.
