Uniondale, NY - May 14, 2018 - PSEG Long Island, operator of the Long Island Power Authority’s (LIPA) electric grid, today announced  it has been recognized by the American Public Power Association (APPA) as a 'Diamond' Reliable Public Power Provider (RP3)®  for providing reliable and safe electric service to 1.1 million customers on Long Island and in the Rockaways. The application for the award was submitted by LIPA, which in 2014 hired PSEG Long Island to operate the electric grid.

The RP3 designation recognizes public power utilities that demonstrate proficiency in four key disciplines: reliability, safety, workforce development, and system improvement. Criteria include sound business practices and a utility-wide commitment to safe and reliable delivery of electricity.

“PSEG Long Island has made significant investments in infrastructure as well as new maintenance procedures to improve customer satisfaction and reliability,” said Daniel Eichhorn, President and COO, PSEG Long Island. “This achievement is the result of these investments and improved procedures.”

Tom Falcone, LIPA’s Chief Executive Officer, said, “The RP3 Diamond designation is a great honor. PSEG Long Island and LIPA have made significant progress in improving service and stabilizing costs as we build a cleaner, more resilient and affordable power grid for all Long Islanders.”

The award was presented on April 30, during the Association’s annual Engineering and Operations Technical Conference. The APPA has offered the RP3 designation for 13 years now.  The APPA is the voice of not-for-profit, community-owned utilities that power 49 million people in 2,000 towns and cities nationwide, and advocates and advises on electricity policy, technology, trends, training, and operations.

PSEG Long Island operates the Long Island Power Authority’s transmission and distribution system under a 12-year contract. PSEG Long Island is a subsidiary of Public Service Enterprise Group Incorporated (NYSE:PEG), a publicly traded diversified energy company with annual revenues of $9.1 billion.
