Clenzo Thompson, of Central Islip, took a taxi cab to Bank of America, located at 185 Wheeler Road, Central Islip. At approximately 2:40 this afternoon, he entered the bank, approached a teller and produced a note demanding cash. The teller did not comply with his demand and Thompson exited the bank and got back into the waiting cab and fled.

Thompson then asked the taxi cab driver to take him to TD Bank, located at 6 Main St., in East Islip. At approximately 3 p.m., he approached a teller and produced a note demanding cash. The teller complied with his demand and Thompson exited the bank, got back into the waiting cab and fled.

Officers from the Third precinct responding to the robbery attempt in Central Islip quickly interviewed witnesses and were able to identify the cab company, David Brothers Taxi, located at 51 Park Avenue, Bay Shore. The officers contacted a dispatcher from the taxi cab company who located the cab utilizing GPS capabilities.  The taxi cab company provided officers with the taxi’s location and the officers located the cab and arrested Thompson into custody at approximately 3:05 p.m.

The cab driver was unaware of the crimes and Thompson stated he was having a problem with his accounts at the two banks.
