Suffolk County Police today arrested a man for leaving the scene of an accident and driving while intoxicated after he crashed his vehicle in Lindenhurst.

Anthony Lacorte was driving a 2015 GMC Sierra when he crashed the vehicle into a parked car in front of 21 Lido Parkway at approximately 11:40 p.m. The GMC lost a tire in the crash, but Lacorte continued driving.

The sparks from the tire rim driving on pavement caused the GMC to catch fire at the intersection of 2nd Avenue and South 4th Street, where Lacorte exited the vehicle and fled the scene on foot. First Precinct Patrol officers apprehended and arrested Lacorte a short distance away.

Lacorte, 37, of 299 Balchen St., Massapequa, was charged with Driving While Intoxicated and Leaving the Scene of a Motor Vehicle Accident with Property Damage.

He is being held overnight at the First Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip later today.
