Homicide Squad Reports Arrest in Connection with Fatal Hit-and-Run in Hempstead

Hempstead, NY - March 19, 2018 - The Homicide Squad reports the details of Leaving the Scene of an Incident Without Reporting, involving a pedestrian, on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at 8:15 pm in Hempstead.
 
According to detectives, a male, 64, was found on the ground in the vicinity on Columbia Street. The aided was bleeding from his head and was transported to NYU Winthrop Hospital for treatment. The aided was pronounced deceased on Friday, March 9, 2018 at 7:46 pm by hospital staff.
 
The medical examiner observed multiple head fractures, broken ribs and lacerations to the body.
 
A subsequent investigation was conducted. Detectives determined Neptali Sanchez, 44, of Floral Park, parked a 2001 Ford Expedition on Columbia Street and entered a deli located at 149 Main Street, Hempstead. While Sanchez was inside the deli, the victim fell in front of the passenger’s side of the Expedition. Sanchez exited the deli, entered the Expedition, proceeded to drive and run over the victim. The vehicle initially stopped and then fled the scene at a high rate of speed. Sanchez was arrested without incident on Friday, March 16, 2018 at 2:50 pm.
 
Defendant Sanchez is charged with Leaving the Scene of an Incident Without Reporting. He will be arraigned on Saturday, March 17, 2018 at First District Court, Hempstead.
