Garden City's Cradle of Aviation Museum, an aerospace museum dedicated to commemorating Long Island's vital part in the rich history of aviation, has announced an exciting upcoming slate of events for the community throughout March, April and May that are are sure to appeal to families as well as anyone with a keen interest in science, popular culture, and just plain having a good ol' time.

 

March 2024

80s Arcade & Karaoke Night

Saturday, March 23, 2024 7:00 pm - 11:00 pm

80s Arcade and Karaoke Nights are back! Now with the added 90s vibe!

Brought to you by Cradle-Con: A Comic, Collectible, and Pop Culture Con

Relive the 1980s and 1990s glory days while playing classic arcade games like Pac-Man and Donkey Kong and singing your heart out to karaoke music. No quarters needed! Our games are all set to free play. Bring your big hair, acid-washed jeans, shoulder pads, Members-Only jackets, and a dose of 90s nostalgia. We've also added 20 classic consoles so you can try out the home console ports of some of your favorite arcade games.

Eclipses with Astronomy on Tap

Thursday, March 28, 2024 7:00 pm - 10:30 pm

Join us for Astronomy on Tap: Eclipses, an evening of cosmic exploration on Thursday, March 28th. Astro On Taps’s Brian Levine (MC Tycho Brewhaha) will co-host this exciting event.

Here's what awaits you:

  • Dive deeper into the upcoming eclipse with engaging talks by renowned scientists and educators, including, Kaitlin Schmidt (MC Annie Drunk Cannon), and Betsy Hernandez. They'll preview the solar eclipse, explain the details, and answer your questions, even though NYC won't experience totality.
  • Test your space knowledge in a fun trivia game with prizes after the talks.
  • Gaze through high-powered telescopes provided by the Amateur Astronomers Association and witness rare celestial sights (weather permitting)!

Music & Astronomy Night with Adelphi University

Thursday, April 4, 2024 6:30 pm- 8:30 pm

Presented by the Cradle of Aviation Museum and Adelphi University

Join us for an evening of live music paired with scientifically accurate visuals in our upgraded Catholic Health Sky Theater Planetarium!

Students from Adelphi University will play a mix of original, and improvised pieces, highlighting the beauty of the universe and humanity’s desire to explore it.

Doors open at 6:30 pm and the concert runs from 7 - 8:30 pm.

$15 General Admission
$12 Students, Seniors, and Members (ID required at the door)

Solar Eclipse Viewing Party and Activities

Monday, April 8thFamily Activities: 12 pm- 4 pm.

Eclipse starts at 2:12 pm and ends at 4:37 pm.

Celebrate the solar eclipse with us. This is your chance to witness a phenomenon you won't see again for decades!

Free glasses and hands-on STEM activities with museum admission

Engaging STEM Activities:

  • Learn why the Earth and Moon look the same.
  • Create your own Pinhole Projector.
  • Draw your own eclipse experience.
  • Observe the eclipse safely.

Bonus - Free certified solar eclipse glasses will be provided with admission. While supplies last.

Custom Cradle of Aviation commemorative glasses are available for $3 in our museum store.

The museum is open from 10:00 am - 5:00 pm, activities are 12:00 pm-4:00 pm and the eclipse starts at 2:12 pm and ends at 4:37 pm.
