Mount Sinai, NY - April 13th, 2016 -  Suffolk County Legislator Sarah Anker announces the county-wide “The Truth About Stimulant Drinks” video contest. This contest is held annually as per Resolution Number 187-2013, sponsored by Legislators Sarah Anker and William Spencer, and invites all Suffolk County high school students to participate by creating a 30-second public service announcement (PSA) about the health risks associated with energy drinks.

“Consuming energy drinks can be harmful to your health, and with the intense marketing of the product, many consumers do not know the risks of drinking energy drinks,” said Legislator Anker. “The video contest will provide a creative venue for students to inform residents of the consequences of consuming engery drinks, as well as provide information about healthy alternatives.”

Each participant will create a PSA with the title “The Truth About Stimulant Drinks.” The PSA should creatively incorporate the student’s interpretation of the negative health effects of energy drinks and should be no longer than 30 seconds.Video entries should be submitted to your repsective County legislator.

Each legislator will select a finalist from their district, and the winner will be chosen by Suffolk County Legislature Presiding Officer DuWayne Gregory. The winning video will be used a part of a countywide message to be disseminated by the Suffolk County Department of Health Services.

As the representative for Legislative District 6, Legislator Anker will accept entries from the following school districts: Miller Place, Mount Sinai, Rocky Point, Shoreham-Wading River, and Longwood.
