What was once a staple in Sound Beach on New York Avenue, George’s Kitchen-later transformed into the Sound Beach Diner-is now Italian Restaurant Tony's on the Boulevard.

The Sound Beach Square has seen a shakeup in dining options as of late, a crossroads of auto repairs places, pizza shops and a firehouse. La Famiglia Pizzeria announced it was closing up shop in December after Sound Beach Diner shut its doors last year, leaving residents with fewer options in its downtown area.

Now, Tony’s on the Boulevard has opened up serving Italian plates and pizza. A sign on the door says that Tony is formally from Branchinelli's and Colosseo’s, two locally well-known, well-liked (and some might say legendary) pizzerias.

On Google, reviews have been positive.

Hannah M gave Tony’s five stars.

“Hidden GEM in downtown Sound Beach,” she said. “Dinner, pizza & homemade desserts — all delicious!!!”

Jesse M agreed.

“You walk in and see a small version of Italy,” he wrote. “The atmosphere is wonderful, plenty of tables, and the world's nicest Italian man behind the counter.”

AJ said Tony’s is serving up fine Italian food.

“The pizza is hot, the Calzones are Fresh and they treat you like family,” he wrote.
