Saint James, NY - February 13, 2017 - NPR Education Correspondent Eric Westervelt will give a timely talk entitled “Education today: How technology is — and isn't — disrupting traditional pedagogy.” The event will take place on Wednesday, February 15th at 7:30 pm at Harbor Country Day School in Saint James, NY. The discussion, moderated by WSHU Long Island Bureau Chief Terry Sheridan, will be followed by audience Q & A.

The event is part of WSHU’s acclaimed “Join the Conversation” lecture series, which puts thought leaders together with public radio listeners for engaging discussions. Recent developments in education make this event particularly relevant: On February 7th, Betsy DeVos was confirmed as Education Secretary after much public debate and a contentious nomination process; and technology continues to have far-reaching effects on children and learning.

An award-winning reporter with a decade of experience at NPR's international desk, Eric Westervelt has covered American education since 2013. In this role, he covers the news, issues, and trends in classrooms across the country, from pre-K to higher education.

The press is invited to attend and cover the event. General public tickets are sold out but to be added to the waiting list, email Dawn McBrearty.
