Movement was northeast at 45 mph. HAZARD...Winds in excess of 30 mph and pea size hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to outdoor objects is possible. Locations impacted include... Brentwood, Levittown, Freeport, Commack, Huntington Station, Centereach, Deer Park, Lindenhurst, Plainview, Massapequa, Hauppauge, Syosset, Mineola, Huntington, and Westbury.

Huntington Station Senior Killed in Crash

Suffolk County Police are investigating a motor vehicle crash that killed an elderly man in Huntington Station today.

Huntington Station, NY - January 22nd, 2015 - Suffolk County Police Second Squad detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash that killed an elderly man in Huntington Station today.

Salvatore Tornatore was driving a 2008 Cadillac westbound on East Jericho Turnpike, just west of Engelke Avenue, when his Cadillac entered the eastbound lane and struck a car carrier trailer at approximately 2:30 p.m. Tornatore, 94, of Huntington Station, was transported to Huntington Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the truck, Michael Nicienski, 45, of Rhode Island, was not injured and remained at the scene.

The Cadillac was impounded for a safety check.  The Highway Patrol Motor Carrier Safety Team performed a safety check on the car carrier trailer at the scene. There was no apparent damage to the six vehicles that were being transported on the trailer at the time of the crash.

The investigation is continuing.
