Governor Kathy Hochul today announced the appointment of the Honorable Lynn Wessel Keane to a vacancy on the New York State Supreme Court, Appellate Division, Fourth Department.
 
“The Honorable Justice Wessel Keane is experienced, thoughtful and highly-qualified,” Governor Hochul said. “I am confident she will serve with distinction as a member of the Appellate Division, Fourth Department.”
 
The Honorable Lynn Wessel Keane has been a sitting Justice for the Erie County Supreme Court in the Eighth Judicial District of New York since being elected in 2017. Prior to Erie County Supreme Court, Wessel Keane was elected Town Justice for the Orchard Park Town Court in 2012.
 
Justice Wessel Keane began her legal career as an assistant district attorney and launched her own private defense practice in 2000. Justice Wessel Keane was also a confidential law clerk to Judge Lisa Bloch Rodwin (Ret.) of the Erie County Family Court, gaining experience in criminal, family, and civil matters.  
 
Justice Wessel Keane is a member of the Bar Association of Erie County, the Women’s Bar Association of New York State and the Association of Justices of the Supreme Court of the State of New York. She recently served as vice-president and previously as treasurer of the Supreme Court Justice Association, Eighth Judicial District, as well as serving as a member of the Committee on Character and Fitness for the Eighth Judicial District, Fourth Department.
 
Wessel Keane earned a B.A. from Boston College where she graduated magna cum laude and completed a J.D. from SUNY Buffalo Law School graduating cum laude.
