“January is National Volunteer Blood Donor Month. This month, the Red Cross honors the quiet heroes who help save lives every day by donating blood,” said Kay E. Schwartz, Chief Executive Officer, Red Cross Blood Services – New York-Penn Region. “The Red Cross is so proud to partner with the YMCA of Long Island this January to help supply blood to hospital patients where and when it is needed.”
"Giving back and community engagement is core to the Y's reason for being.  We are thrilled to partner with American Red Cross in this week of giving, and it's a powerful way to nurture the spirit of social responsibility among our members, staff, and communities," says Anne N. Brigis, President and CEO, YMCA of Long Island.
During January, the Red Cross encourages all eligible Americans to make a year-round resolution to help save lives through blood donation. Approximately every two seconds a patient in the United States needs blood. That’s why your blood donation through the Red Cross is so important. Blood is an essential component for patient care in area hospitals, and the only source of blood is a healthy, volunteer blood donor. All presenting donors at this blood drive will receive a voucher good for two tickets to an upcoming NY Islanders hockey game.* Walk-ins are always welcome, but donors are encouraged to schedule an appointment in advance by calling 1-800-RED CROSS or by visiting
