NYCLA was founded more than 100 years ago as an alternative to existing bar associations of the time that excluded some attorneys from membership on the basis of gender, race, religion and ethnicity. The founders of NYCLA were determined to create, in the words of Hon. Joseph H. Choate, who would later become the organization's president, the great democratic bar association of the City [where] any attorney who had met the rigid standards set up by law for admission to the bar should, by virtue of that circumstance, be eligible for admission. Today NYCLA has more than 10,000 members and has used its considerable influence to effect reform in American jurisprudence, law and public policy.

Jeff graduated from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania with a B.S. degree and Brooklyn Law School, where he received the school's coveted American Jurisprudence Awards for Legal Writing and Appellate Advocacy and was selected to its distinguished National Moot Court Team. He is admitted to the Bar in New York, New Jersey, the District of Columbia and the United States Federal Courts and is also a member of the New York State Trial Lawyers Association, New York State Bar Association and the City Bar.
