Again I find myself revising this article because I find it so important to pass on good sense and experience to Parents . Back to school is again upon us and this is the time of year that parents look for activities and programs for their children to participate in. I've already seen more inquirys and memberships in my two schools. In the next eight to twelve weeks parents will be looking for karate schools for their children.

My advise is take time and look at a few schools. Long Island can boast more than 400 martial arts /self defense schools from Malvere to Montauk.Schools that teach aikido to kickboxing and every martial art in-between. Therefore I always advise parents to make appointments at a few neighborhood schools and see what best for their child. One thing to remember it takes more than just a black belt to be a good instructor. And this I believe to be the most important criteria in picking a school "Quality of Instruction".Experience,Communication and Expertise in the martial art are essential ingrediants to be a Good Instructor.

Ask the school for a tour and a FREE Trial Class . Any reputable school will be glad to accomodate your request. talk to the Head Instuctor and inquire about his background and how long he has been in business. The better schools seem to have been established for years. Ask direct questions. Are their contracts?, What is the cost ? Are their any hidden fees ? At my schools we have no contracts and we offer a 4 week trial program to see if the student will continue. Karate is hard work and commitment but the lifetime benefits are undenieble.

Please feel free to contact me if I can be of any assistance in your choosing the best karate school for your child.
