"Coastal Flood Advisory" ...Coastal flood advisory now in effect from 4 am to 8 am EST Friday... * locations...vulnerable coastal locales along western Long Island Sound. * Tidal departure...3 to 3 1/2 ft above astronomical tides. * Coastal flood impacts...shallow flooding is expected in the most vulnerable locations near the Waterfront and shoreline. Expect around 1 to 2 feet of inundation above ground level in low lying, vulnerable areas. Some roads and low lying property including parking lots, Parks, lawns and homes/businesses with basements near the Waterfront will experience shallow flooding. * Shoreline impacts...breaking waves will result in beach erosion and flooding with minor damage possible to dune structures during the times of high tide. * Timing...around the times of high tide tonight. Precautionary/preparedness actions... A coastal flood advisory indicates that onshore winds and tides will combine to generate flooding of low areas along the shore. , "Special Statement" ...An area of heavy snow will affect southern Fairfield...Hudson... Passaic...Union...Bergen...Essex...South central Orange...Queens... Richmond...Bronx...Kings...Rockland...southern Westchester... Suffolk...New York (manhattan) and Nassau counties... At 221 PM EST, an area of heavy snow was located along a line extending from near Alpha to Sheepshead Bay to 6 miles east of Robert Moses State Park. Movement was northeast at 30 mph. Locations impacted include... Islip, Newark, Jersey City, Jamaica, Yonkers, Paterson, Elizabeth, Stamford, Flatbush, Norwalk, New Rochelle, Flushing, Passaic, Bayonne and Brentwood. Visibilities will drop quickly to less than a quarter of a mile in this area of heavy snow. Snowfall rates will average between 1 and 2 inches an hour. Travel will be difficult and should be avoided where possible. Icy roads are possible as the snow melts on the roads then quickly refreezes. That time of year is just about here. In just a few short weeks the weather will finally start warming up and we can all look forward to getting outside and enjoying the sunshine.
 
Now that daylight savings will start giving us longer days, we have more time to get out and enjoy these great festivals and fairs that are coming on Long Island.
 
Spring Craft Beer Festival
