Man Arrested for Early Morning Arson at Chase Bank, Caught with Illegal Substances

The Arson Bomb Squad report the arrest of a Bronx man for Arson that occurred on Saturday, February 17, 2024 at 5:18 am.
 
According to detectives, Fifth Precinct police responded to the Chase bank located at 930 Rosedale Avenue for a fire. Upon arrival, police observed a fire in the vestibule area of the location.
 
An investigation determined that the defendant Garland Douglas, 32, who was standing outside the bank when police arrived was responsible for starting the fire.
 
Further investigation revealed that defendant Douglas was inside the vestibule during the fire and was adding fuels to the fire. The Defendant was placed into police custody without incident. There were no injuries reported. Douglas was in possession of a Crack Pipe that contained a white powdery substance believed to be Cocaine and a Syringe that
had a brown substance on it believed to be heroin.
 
Defendant Garland Douglas is charged with Arson 3rd Degree, and two counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th Degree. He will be arraigned in First District court in Hempstead on Sunday, February 18, 2024.
