For the Coastal Flood Statement, late tonight. * IMPACTS...Minor flooding in the more vulnerable locations near the waterfront and shoreline. Some roads and low lying properties including parking lots, parks, lawns, and homes and businesses with basements near the waterfront will experience minor flooding.

Fledgling Osprey Saved in Wantagh Park

The Public Information Office reports the details of an Unusual Incident involving wildlife that occurred on September 6, 2014 at 3:00 pm in Wantagh.

Wantagh, NY - September 7, 2014 - The Public Information Office reports the details of an Unusual Incident involving wildlife that occurred on September 6, 2014 at 3:00 pm in Wantagh.

According to officers, the Seventh Precinct, along with the Nassau County Police Departments Emergency Service Unit and the Wantagh Fire Department responded to Wantagh Park for the report of a fledgling Osprey that was tangled in a nest that included fishing line. The bird, who attempted to fly from its nest that was 75 feet high in a light pole, was cut loose from its entanglement. The Osprey, who was suffering from a leg injury, was turned over to “Wildlife in Need”, who will nurture it back to health and set it free when deemed fit.
