The National Weather Service in New York has issued a Winter Storm Warning for heavy snow...which is in effect from 7 PM this evening to 7 PM EST Thursday. The Winter Storm Watch is no longer in effect. * Locations...eastern Union County New Jersey...southern parts of New York City...and Long Island. * Hazard types...heavy snow. * Accumulations...snow accumulation of 4 to 8 inches tonight into Thursday. * Timing...rain mixes with sleet and snow this evening...before changing to all snow by midnight. Snow may be heavy at times late tonight through Thursday morning...before tapering off Thursday evening. * Impacts...hazardous travel conditions are expected tonight and Thursday due to reduced visibilities...icy roads and significant snow accumulations. * Visibilities...one quarter to one half mile at times. Precautionary/preparedness actions... A Winter Storm Warning for heavy snow means severe winter weather conditions are expected or occurring. Significant amounts of snow are forecast that will make travel dangerous. Only travel in an emergency. NCPD Crime Alert: Man Wanted for Robbing Merrick Chase Bank

Robbery Squad detectives are investigating a bank robbery that occurred in Merrick on Tuesday, 06/09/14 at 10:20 A.M.

Merrick, NY - June 9th, 2014 - Robbery Squad detectives are investigating a bank robbery that occurred in Merrick on Tuesday, 06/09/14 at 10:20 A.M.
 
According to detectives, a male subject entered Chase Bank located at 2122 Merrick Ave., approached the teller and handed her a note demanding cash.  The subject threatened the use of a gun in the demand note, but none was displayed.  The victim handed over an undisclosed amount of cash and the subject fled on food in an unknown direction.  There were seven employees and one customer in the bank at the time of the robbery.
 
No injuries were reported.
 
The subject is described as a male black, 5’11” tall, dark complexion, medium build, wearing a black long haired wig, baseball cap with a star, and a maroon hooded sweatshirt.
 
Detectives ask anyone with information regarding this crime to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.  All callers will remain anonymous.
