New York, NY - January 7, 2017 - Recently, 45 Advanced Placement World History students from Erin Hansen’s and Pat Costell’s classes at William Floyd High School traveled to the Metropolitan Museum of Art (The Met) to explore artwork from various cultures they have studied throughout the school year.

At The Met, museum guides led students on tours in which they discussed art, sculptures and artifacts in their collection. Throughout their visit, students made cross-cultural connections to a variety of themes that can be traced throughout the various cultures, and compared and contrasted time period, location, material used, subject, tone and historical connections while analyzing artwork from Egypt, Mesopotamia, China, Greece, Rome, the Middle East and Africa.

“It was a wonderful experience and students were wide-eyed with wonder and excitement,” said Ms. Hansen. “They were complimented by The Met staff for their inquisitive nature, astute discussions and polite manners. The first-hand experience of interacting with professional art historians was amazing!”
