New halal restaurants  have been opening up all over Long Island recently - a long way from the food carts of New York City these joints have nestled themselves alongside pizzerias and bagel shops in shopping centers across Long Island. But even the hardcore halal food fan might want to spice it up a bit when it comes to the standard fare that consists of lamb, chicken, or falafel (or some delicious combo).

That’s why the owner of Jalapeño Shack opened up his take on halal: Tex-Mex.

According to a story on GreaterLongIsland.com, Khalil Nayl wanted to put a little variety into the halal food landscape. While ordering at Jalapeño Shack might be familiar to halal fans, the choices include tacos, nachos, quesadillas and burritos with steak, chicken, ground beef, or vegetables.

On Google, the restaurant has been getting some rave reviews.

“First time going to this place the owner was a wonderful guy and really kind,” wrote Mehdi Abbas. “The food to OMG! It was so good that I’m definitely coming back here. I 100% recommend this place if you like eating Mexican food and best part is it’s Halal!”

Wasia Shaikh said the food was flavorful.

“The sauces have an amazing kick to them, my favorite was the jalapeno salsa,” he wrote. “The owner is very friendly and welcoming. We will definitely be back for more burritos and nacho bowls which were our favorite.”
