Shirley & Moriches, NY - November 5, 2015 - Students and staff at John S. Hobart Elementary School, Moriches Elementary School and William Floyd Elementary School collected and donated approximately 1,800 pairs of socks to local shelters for “Socktober,” an annual drive organized by YouTube star Kid President to collect socks and other necessities for those less fortunate during the cold-weather seasons.

At John S. Hobart Elementary School, fourth-grade teacher Kaleigh Gordon and kindergarten teacher Stefani Hynes led the charge by having both grade levels work together on the school-wide event, which resulted in 878 pairs of socks donated by students, staff and families.

Moriches Elementary School donated approximately 500 pairs of socks to celebrate Socktober thanks to the generosity of their school community. Fifth-grade teacher Susannah Johnson and social worker Melissa Knoetgen spearheaded the event.

At William Floyd Elementary School, third-grade teacher Jennifer Colosa and permanent substitute Jonathan Germer coordinated the collection garnering 422 pairs of socks for the needy. All socks collected will go toward shelters serving residents of the William Floyd community.
