Bronx man arrested by State Police for Robbery, Assault and Grand Larceny

State Police responded to a call of a physical altercation on the Southern State Parkway eastbound near exit 13

On October 4, 2022, around 10:45PM, the State Police responded to a call of a physical altercation on the Southern State Parkway eastbound near exit 13, town of Hempstead, Nassau County. 

Through the preliminary investigation it was learned there was a minor collision between two vehicles and both vehicles pulled to the right shoulder.  After the collision, both drivers exited their vehicles to talk and during their conversation one driver struck the other driver.  After striking the victim multiple times the suspect took the drivers wallet, which included U.S. Currency and credit cards, and then went into the victim’s vehicle and stole a bag containing electronics and other personal items.  The suspect then got back into his vehicle and fled the scene.

The victim was treated for facial fractures and lacerations at Nassau University Medical Center. 

On October 28th, after three-week long investigation with the New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) and Forensic Identification Unit (FIU) the suspect, Edwin Smith, 32, of the Bronx, NY was identified, arrested, and charged with Robbery 2nd Degree a C – Felony, Assault 2nd Degree a D – Felony, and Grand Larceny 4th Degree an E – Felony and arraigned at Nassau County First District Court today, October 29th.

Due to the hard work and investigative efforts from the Trooper on scene and the follow through from the BCI and FIU Investigators, Smith will have to answer for his criminal actions.
