Mezza Luna opened recently in the space of the former Hauppauge favorite Mario Restaurant. Two former staff members of Mario's launched the new dinner experience.

Fred Norden was maitre d at Mario’s for ten years as well as general manager at two other Long Island Restaurants, Drift 82 & Lombardi’s on the Bay. Peter A. Bua, Mario’s son, worked at his father’s business for over 25 years and is well-known by loyal customers who frequented the establishment.

After an extensive renovation Mezza Luna finally reopened this fall.

With former Mario’s chef, Raoul Marino, still in the kitchen the menu is tilted toward the familiar fare that the former restaurant was known for. The menu is extensive with cold apps like their Caprese with fresh mozzarella, beefsteak tomatoes, fresh basil, and a touch of balsamic glaze ($17) and hot apps like a delicious Ostriche, Rockefeller oysters filled with creamy spinach, bacon, and parmesan cheese ($17).

Entrees include specials like Trenette Al Pesto, thin noodles, basil, and garlic ($24) or the Capelli D’ Angelo Mario, fine pasta with crab meat sauce ($31). Pesce menu has Conchiglie del Mare, sea scallops (MP) and a Bronzino in Brodetto O’ Fiorentina ($33).

Vivian R, from Huntington Station, also loved it.
