Hauppauge, NY - October 11, 2015 - The Amnesty Day held yesterday for Suffolk County residents to turn in their illegally-owned reptiles and mammals was deemed a success.
Roy Gross, Chief of the Suffolk County SPCA said that 3 American Alligators were turned in along with 8 turtles. Gross said that the Alligators were healthy but some of the turtles were sick. One Snapping Turtle was very ill and two other species of turtles were diseased. One small Box Turtle was turned in and was deformed. The Alligators were all approximately 3 feet long and were quite feisty, Gross said.
