ACIT (Advancement for Commerce, Industry and Technology), a prominent Long Island-based business networking organization, will be holding their second annual Senior Healthcare Summit at the Crest Hollow Country Club in Woodbury on Wednesday October 16. Networking starts at 7:30 a.m. and the program will begin at 8:30 a.m. The event promises to give members of the local business community the opportunity not only to build vital connections and establish new contacts, but to keep them apprised of the latest developments in an industry – senior healthcare – that has taken great strides in many ways in recent years.

Founded over 50 years ago and comprised of a large membership drawn in by their impressive reputation for putting on interesting and informative meetings and seminars, ACIT holds several events on Long Island annually, the majority of which are hosted at the Crest Hollow Country Club. And while they have offered a wide variety of topics and an impressive array of speakers over the years, Howard Nevins – ACIT board member and Senior Vice President of Care Connect, LLC – felt that an emphasis on the healthcare field would offer a unique topic of discussion for a new event. With that, last year, the Senior Healthcare Summit was born.

“I’ve been involved in the senior living and healthcare field since 2005, and I felt that an event which addressed that this specific industry would be valuable for the Long Island business community,” Nevins said. “The idea came about because of our large senior population, and the fact that a lot of people are not aware of the many options out there regarding senior housing, technology innovations and even legal or accounting laws. Whether a senior wishes to remain at home with the assistance of an aide or if a senior prefers to move into an assisted-living or independent living community, I felt that it was important to get the word out about these options and their availability to the seniors that need them.”

But in a change from the inaugural senior-centric event, Nevins felt that the topic for this year’s summit should evolve to include the more prominent role technology plays in our society’s ever-increasing senior population. To that end, he has brought together four special panelists for Oct. 16’s summit that he feels will be able to provide invaluable information to the event’s attendees.

“This year is unique in that we're focusing on technology within the senior space, and we're going to be offering a spectrum of people within those Industries,” Nevins said. “We have someone from a consulting business who can help people create, build, and make their ideas a reality. We have a representative from PERS – Personal Emergency Response System – which has some really amazing technology that not only connects the senior who's wearing it, but their family as well. We also have another individual that focuses on the IT industry and works with many senior communities and hospitals that service the senior space. And the fourth person we have is a cyber security specialist, who's going to talk about how to protect information from scams and falling victim to data breaches, be it personal or business.”

“Also, we are excited to have Chris Tombline back as our moderator for the second year in a row- he did an amazing job asking questions and keeping the conversation flowing, and we can’t wait for Tom to lead the discussion this year,” Nevins explained.

The panelists for the ACIT second annual Senior Healthcare Summit is as follows:

  • Moderator - Christopher M. Tombline, Executive Manager of Gutterman Funeral Homes
  • Domenick Gandolfo, Co-Founder and Chief Security Strategist of Cybersafe Solutions
  • Gregory Lakis, Director of Business Development, LINCOLN IT
  • Peri Avitan, CEO of LiveCare Corps.
  • Gregory Montalbano, Principal Owner and Development Leader of MIDI Medical Product Development
The event is scheduled to begin with a 7:30 a.m. networking session, followed by the main program at 8:30 a.m. Following the conclusion of the discussion at approximately 10 a.m., guests will remain to engage in a Q&A session with the panelists.

Nevins noted that ACIT is a vital resource for the members of the Long Island business landscape, be they seasoned professionals or up-and-coming entrepreneurs, and their numerous events – including the Senior Healthcare Summit on October 16 – offer a fantastic opportunity for them all to meet, connect, and acquire the know-how to get ahead in today’s highly-competitive economy.

“What I'm trying to do through ACIT and my involvement with other leadership positions is to bring meaningful events to the Long Island market. I feel that there is so much business to be had and so many thought leaders within the various industries on Long Island that we should have targeted and topical events to attend,” he said. “I feel very strongly about creating a business ecosystem not only for existing businesspeople, but for the younger generation…the generation that's on Long Island and looking to network and get information on specific industries.
