Nassau County Executive Laura Curran has announced that 90.1% of adult residents (18+) in Nassau County have now received at least one COVID-19 vaccine dose, the highest adult vaccination rate of all sixty-two counties in New York State according to the New York State Department of Health. In comparison, 79.1% of adults in New York State have received at least one vaccine dose, and 75.7% of adults in the United States have received at least one vaccine dose. Nassau County has the second highest adult vaccination rate in the United States among the forty most populous counties in the United States.

“Nassau County is a national model for vaccination. I want to commend and thank our residents for stepping up to this historic challenge and doing the right thing. The vaccine is saving lives every day and Nassau is committed to keeping up our momentum,” said Nassau County Executive Laura Curran.

To further increase vaccinations, County Executive Curran and the Nassau County Department of Health recently launched an innovative program which offers on-site vaccination events to businesses. The program is open to all sized businesses, restaurants, shops, etc. and offers free in-house vaccinations by appointment to all eligible employees and family members. The unique vaccination program has been utilized by large companies, warehouses and even franchises such as McDonalds. The program has been overwhelmingly successful in getting shots into the arms of employees who do not necessarily have equitable access to the vaccine.  Businesses can inquire about the program by calling 516-227-9570.

Over the summer, the County focused on vaccinating eligible youth ahead of the school year. Nassau County pioneered a first-of-its-kind Student Vaccination Initiative, which has vaccinated thousands of eligible students through various pop-up events, most recently in Hempstead. The Student Vaccination Initiative has engaged and trained youth ambassadors to support and encourage peers to roll up their sleeves.
