There are a number of ways to honor those who sacrificed their lives as heroes and those we lost on September 11th across Long Island.

Nassau County 9/11 Memorial - The County also put together a list of Nassau County residents lost on 9/11. View it here. Where: Nassau County 9/11 Memorial, Nassau County September 11 Memorial, Westbury.

911 Responders Remembered Memorial Park - The pure mission of the 911 Responders Remembered Park, Inc. Board is to build a park that will honor and recognize the heroes who have died, and continue to die since September 11th. Where: 911 Smithtown Boulevard, Lake Ronkonkoma.

List of Steel Beam Memorials - After the World Trade Center was attacked on September 11, 2001, steel beams recovered from Ground Zero were shipped across the country to stand as solemn reminders of the events that occurred that day, and as memorials for those who lost their lives in the attacks. Over 80 steel beam memorial sites can be found on Long Island at schools, parks, fire departments, and other religious and civic groups. They are listed as National Memorial Sites, and are meant to be peaceful places for remembrance and reflection.  Each year, many of these locations host annual 9/11 memorial events.

Diamond in the Pines 9/11 Learning Site - The memorial was organized largely through the hard work of Rocky Point High School teacher Rich Acritelli. He has led the effort to create this memorial to honor the many lives lost on 9/11, to honor the rescue worker efforts in the days that followed, and to honor the veterans of the War on Terror. Where: Diamond in the Pines Park, 1844 Route 112.

Remembrance Wall at Point Lookout Town Park - This site is the spot where hundreds gathered on September 11, 2001 to look across the water to NYC and the The World Trade Center on that terrible day. Where: Point Lookout Town Park, 1300 Lido Boulevard, Lido Beach.

September 11th Memorial at Cemetery of the Holy Rood - The September 11th Memorial at Cemetery of the Holy Rood features the names of over 400 men and women who lost their lives due to the events of September 11, 2001. Where: Cemetery of the Holy Rood, 111 Old Country Road, Westbury.
