3 Police Officers Attacked When Father Asks to Check on Welfare of Son

Officers responded to 1000 Sunrise Highway for a welfare check called in by the father of a 20-year-old male, Marcellus Morris of 305 Langdon Boulevard in Rockville Centre.

The Fourth Squad reports the arrest of a Rockville Centre man for an Assault that occurred on Tuesday, July 26, 2022 at 1:50 p.m. in Baldwin.
 
According to Detectives, Officers responded to 1000 Sunrise Highway for a welfare check called in by the father of a 20-year-old male, Marcellus Morris of 305 Langdon Boulevard in Rockville Centre. The father stated that his son did not show up for his court appearance, scheduled for earlier in the day.
 
After making several attempts to contact Marcellus Morris the Emergency Services Unit used department issued tools to breach the door in an attempt to check on the welfare of defendant Morris. Upon entry defendant Morris immediately started attacking Officers. Three Officers sustained injuries during the course of the arrest as the defendant was
violent and combative while resisting arrest. The defendant was transported to a local hospital for an evaluation.
 
Defendant Morris is charged with three counts of Assault in the 2nd Degree, Criminal Mischief in the 2nd Degree, and Obstructing Governmental Administration in the 2nd Degree. He will be arraigned when medically practical.
