Hauppauge, NY - July 28, 2017 - 16 year old Mastic Beach resident Bayley Cuomo was honored by Legislator Kate Browning (WF-Shirley) at the Suffolk County Legislature on Tuesday, July 25 for selflessly coming to the aid of her neighbors. On Saturday, July 1st 2017 one family in Mastic Beach lost everything to a fire caused by fireworks, and Bayley spearheaded a Facebook campaign to help them.

Bayley asked residents to donate needed items. She successfully gathered clothing, a coal BBQ so that the family could cook, a cooler for preserving food, water and personal care items; she left no stone unturned. In addition, the family was forced to sleep in their car in the driveway of their burned out house, but thanks to Bayley’s campaign and donations from local residents they were able to stay in a motel. Bayley was able to get everything the family needed including the furniture for their new home.

“At such a young age Bayley exemplifies the very best our youth have to offer,” stated Legislator Browning. “Out of the kindness of her heart she brought our community together to improve the quality of life of a family that was facing such a difficult time. Bayley is a shining example of the great residents we have in Mastic Beach, and just how much this community cares for one another. I hope her peers also learned a valuable lesson about compassion and helping those in need.”
