Three Arrests Made in Connection with Franklin Square Attempted Robbery, Cops Say

The suspects followed a female victim home from her bank after she withdrew a large sum of money and attempted to rob her, according to NCPD officials.

The Fifth Squad reports the arrest of three individuals for an Attempted Robbery that occurred on Monday, July 10, 2023 at 12:25 pm in Franklin Square. 
 
According to Detectives, a female victim, 57, entered the TD Bank located at 720 Franklin Avenue and withdrew a large sum of money. The victim exited the bank and was approached by a male and female Hispanic who advised the victim of sharp tacks that were behind her car tires in an attempt to distract her. The victim immediately got into her vehicle and proceeded home. 
 
When she exited her vehicle, she was approached by another unknown male Hispanic whom she just saw at the bank. A struggle ensued but the victim was able to retain her money and possessions. The subject fled scene in a Blue Chevy Equinox. 
 
The victim immediately called 911. Officers canvased the area and located the vehicle, along with three subjects. Defendants Giovanni Perez Vega, 30, of 103 Roosevelt Ave, Queens, Maria Babon, 41, of 25-02 80th Street, Elmhurst and Jorge Jimenez Lozano, 57, of 3754 75th Street, Flushing were placed under arrest without further incident.
 
Defendants Giovanni Perez Vega is charged with Attempted Robbery 2nd Degree, Jorge Jimenez Lozano is charged with Attempted Robbery 2nd Degree and Tampering with Physical Evidence and Maria Babon is charged with Attempted Robbery 2nd Degree, Criminal Impersonation 2nd Degree, as she misrepresented her identity to Officers upon arrest, and is a Fugitive from Justice as she has numerous out of state warrants due to similar incidents. 
 
They were arraigned on Tuesday, July 11, 2023 at First District Court, 99 Main Street in Hempstead.
