Police: Four Arrested in Connection with Nassau County Jewelry Store Burglary Spree

Quayshaun Canady, Shawn Gibson Phillips, Alexandre E. Manigat, and Duran Smith were arrested and charged with multiple crimes, cops say.

The Nassau County Police Department's Major Case Bureau reports the arrest of four individuals for multiple Burglaries that occurred between April 14, 2023 through May 12, 2023 in Nassau County.
 
According to Burglary Pattern Squad Detectives, an investigation was conducted that led to the arrest of four men for Burglaries that occurred at the following locations:
  • April 14, 2023 – The Jewelry Studio, 1107 Old Country Road, Plainview.
  • April 14, 2023 – Solomon Fine Jewelers, 74 Manetto Hill Road, Plainview.
  • May 12, 2023 - Sophia Jewelry, 3695 Hempstead Turnpike, Levittown.
Defendant Duran Smith, 23, of 245 E 34th Street, Brooklyn and Defendant Alexandre E. Manigat of 371 E 35th Street were both previously arrested and arraigned on May 12, 2023.
 
Defendant Shawn Gibson Phillips, 27, of 11 Morgan Avenue, Poughkeepsie was located and placed into custody on June 14, 2023.  He was arraigned on June 15, 2023.
 
Defendant Quayshaun Canady, 31, of 101-43 98th Street, Queens was placed into custody and arraigned on July 6, 2023. 
 
Subsequent to the investigation, it was determined that Defendant Smith and Defendant Manigat were in possession of a loaded handgun with a 15-round magazine.
 
Defendant Duran Smith is charged with Burglary 3rd Degree, Grand Larceny 2nd Degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon. Defendant Alexandre E. Manigat is charged with three (3) counts of Burglary 3rd Degree, three (3) counts of Grand Larceny 2nd Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon and Resisting Arrest. Defendant Shawn Gibson Phillips and Defendant Quayshaun Canady are both charged with two (2) counts of Burglary 3rd Degree and (2) counts of Grand Larceny 2nd Degree. 
 
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
