Riverhead-based Peconic Growers LLC was awarded one of the few and highly sought-after adult-use conditional cannabis licenses by the Cannabis Control Board of the state of New York. To date, the state has issued only 110 licenses to cultivators across the state.

The Peconic Grower’s team is led by Icilio “Bill” Bianchi. Mr. Bianchi, 92, a lifelong resident of Suffolk County and former New York State Assemblyman, and his team, have spent over five decades growing wholesale orchids on the east end of Long Island and more recently, began cultivating hemp at his greenhouse in Riverhead.

Given the prerequisites set forth by the state, few candidates qualify for, and even fewer have received approval, to cultivate cannabis from the state.  Conditional cultivators have the ability to begin growing cannabis for adult-use immediately, with the hopes of ensuring an adequate supply of cannabis when the state’s adult-use market launches sometime at the end of this year or in early 2023.

The Peconic Growers team was counseled by and relied on the expertise of Ruskin Moscou Faltischek P.C.’s Cannabis Practice Group, headquartered in Uniondale, including attorneys Arthur “Jerry” Kremer, Esq., Elizabeth S. Kase, Esq., Stephen E. Fox, Esq. and Alexandra C. Piscitello, Esq. The firm’s Cannabis Practice Group was formed to assist regional and local businesses navigate the state’s complex and evolving adult-use legalization opportunities.
