Suffolk Police Make Arrest in Connection with Fatal Copiague Stabbing

Following an investigation by Homicide Squad detectives, Gherson Lopez has been arrested for the murder of Jose Argueta-Canales, who was stabbed to death on Barcellona Place in Copiague on May 15.
 
Jose Argueta-Canales, 30, was found on the ground next to a deli on Barcellona Place at approximately 7:40 p.m. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
 
Lopez, 28, of 55 33rd St., Copiague, was arrested in Copiague at 7 p.m. today. He was charged with Murder 2nd Degree and is being held overnight at the Third Precinct. Lopez is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on May 18.
