10 Year Old Girl Struck, Seriously Injured by Car While Crossing the Street in Mineola

Mineola, NY - February 28th, 2016 - Homicide Squad detectives are investigating a serious auto accident, involving a pedestrian, which occurred in Mineola on Saturday, 02/27/16 at 11:30 P.M.

According to detectives, a 10-year-old girl and her family (of Searingtown) were crossing on Westbury Ave./Denton Ave. from south to north, when the child bolted across the street and was struck by a Toyota Prius travelling westbound.

The victim, who suffered a traumatic brain injury, was transported to a local hospital where she is listed in critical condition. No other injuries were reported.

Detectives report no apparent criminality at this time.  A brake and safety inspection of the vehicle was performed at the scene yielding adequate results. The investigation is ongoing.
