Long Island’s famed pizza shop, Umberto’s, has opened in Glen Cove, its first with a wood-fired pizza oven. They opened in the spot that used to be La Pala Italian restaurant at 246 Glen Street.

Credited with inventing the grandma pie, Umberto’s has a special kind of mythos among Long Island pizza shops.

The new pizzeria joins others across Long Island and even one location in Florida.

On Yelp, Joanne S, from Huntington, gave the new location five stars.

“Yay! I have been a patron of Umbertos in New Hyde Park for ages, then they came out to Syosset when I married and moved to Huntington, a few years ago, they opened in Port Washington, a hop, skip and jump from Great Neck and now they have arrived in Glen Cove - so very happy!”

Nancy L, from Glen Cove, loved it.

“I ate here this evening during their soft opening and it was great,” she said. “We had the burrato wood fire pizza and it was delicious. Also their a la vodka sauce was one of the best I ever had. I am looking forward to going back here.”
