14 Residents Safely Evacuated After Fire Engulfs Hicksville Home: Illegal Apartments Uncovered

The Arson Bomb Squad reports the details of a house fire that occurred on Saturday, November 4, 2023 at 7:51 pm in Hicksville. 
 
According to police, Second Precinct Officers responded to a house fire that started in the rear yard and spread to the exterior of the home, located at 25 W Cherry Street.  Officers were able to evacuate all 14 residents to safety without injuries.
 
The Hicksville Fire Department extinguished the flames. All residents were evaluated by Hicksville EMS at the scene.
 
Arson/Bomb Squad Detectives, Nassau County Fire Marshals, and the Town of Oyster Bay Building Inspector responded to the scene. Town of Oyster Bay Building Inspector determined that there were illegal apartments inside the home and multiple summons’ were issued.  The Nassau County Fire Marshall determined that the building was not safe and The Red Cross also responded to provide temporary housing to the displaced residents.
 
Detectives have determined that the fire was not suspicious.
