Sinusitis is an infection in the lining of the sinuses. Sinuses are air spaces in the bones that are behind and above the nose. The sinuses most often affected are in the forehead above the eyes and in the cheekbones. Sinusitis usually follows a cold.
HOW CAN I HELP RELIEVE THE CONDITION?
1. Use a cool-mist vaporizer or humidifier to add moisture to the air. This will help thin the nasal discharge so that it will come out more easily.
2. Apply heat to the sinuses and the nose with a warm wash cloth will help relieve the pain associated with sinusitis.
3. Blow your nose gently. For infants and young children, use a nasal bulb aspirator to remove the nasal discharge. Gently suction each nostril.
4. Drink plenty of fluids.
5. Use of decongestants with or without acetaminophen or ibuprofen can be used. Use only as directed by your physician. Caution with decongestants if you have, High blood pressure, heart disease, thyroid condition or prostate problems; Consult your physician when these problems exist.
Your physician may prescribe an antibiotic, if necessary, for your condition of sinusitis.Sinusitis is a troublesome condition afflicting millions. The condition can be contributed to many different factors. (i.e. bacteria, viruses, environmental etc.). Some cases are acute, mostly bacteria in nature and relieved with the proper antibiotic therapy. Chronic conditions are very difficult to treat and antibiotics are of no avail.
