Man Injured in Police Involved Shooting

Detectives are investigating a police involved shooting where a man, Jayvon Bell, wanted for robbery and menacing, injured after shooting at police officers.

Suffolk County Police Homicide Squad detectives are investigating a police involved shooting that injured a man after he shot at police officers this morning.
 
Two First Precinct officers were transporting a prisoner on Route 109 at approximately 11:45 a.m. when they observed Jayvon Bell, who was wanted for a robbery in May and menacing earlier this month. The officers relayed the information and two plainclothes officers responded and observed Bell in the area.
 
Bell fled from police, jumped a fence, and was located in a backyard on Maple Road in North Amityville a short time later.
 
Bell pulled out a firearm and shot at police officers, one of whom returned fire at approximately 12 p.m.
 
Bell was struck multiple times and airlifted to a Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
 
Bell, 20, of 65 Poplar Road, North Amityville, was charged with Robbery 1st Degree and Menacing.
 
Additional charges are pending. Bell will be arraigned on a later date pending release from the hospital.
