The air quality index...or aqi...was created as an easy way to correlate levels of different pollutants to one scale. The higher the aqi value, the greater the health concern. When pollution levels are elevated...the New York state department of health recommends that individuals consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects. People who may be especially sensitive to the effects of elevated levels of pollutants include the very Young and those with pre existing respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease. Peconic River Yoga and East End Arts Presents Summer Solstice Celebration: June 20

East End Arts and Peconic River Yoga are thrilled to announce the upcoming Summer Solstice Celebration to be held on Wednesday, June 20 beginning at 5:30 PM on the grounds of East End Arts in Riverhead, NY. Similar to happenings at Times Square in New York City, and many other locations throughout the world, Peconic River Yoga and East End Arts invite all East End yogis and drummers to come together for a celebration on the longest day of the year. The event will feature yoga, chanting, meditation, and drumming. The suggested donation is $20 for adults, $15 for seniors or children. Light refreshments for the event have generously been donated by The Dark Horse Restaurant in Riverhead. The schedule of events is as follows:

5:30 pm – 6:45 pm     Yoga (all levels welcome!), led by Kate Alesio, Peconic River Yoga

6:45 pm – 7:00 pm     Chanting led by Nicole D’Onofrio & Monica Kadash, Peconic River Yoga

7:00 pm – 7:15 pm     Meditation led by Monica Kadash, Peconic River Yoga

7:15 pm – 8:15 pm     Drumming led by Jerome Liggon, East End Arts

No experience is necessary and all are welcome to participate. Participants may attend all or part of the event. Attendees are encouraged to bring a yoga mat and/or drum if possible, although some yoga mats and drums will be available. This event is sponsored by The Giving Room.

This is the second time Peconic River Yoga and East End Arts have hosted this type of event – a Winter Solstice Celebration was held in December of 2011. The two organizations plan to continue these events for future solstices.
