Two people were rescued from the Long Island Sound on Sunday morning after their small aircraft crashed into the water off the coast of Branford, Connecticut, near the scenic Thimble Islands.
According to a statement from the U.S. Coast Guard, the plane went down southeast of the island chain around June 1. Crews from Coast Guard Station New Haven quickly responded to the scene and successfully pulled both occupants from the water.
The individuals were brought to shore at Stony Creek Pier, where EMS teams were waiting to provide medical attention. Officials say both victims were in stable condition at the time of the rescue.
The cause of the crash and additional flight details remain under investigation.
“Station New Haven rescued two people from a downed aircraft,” the Coast Guard confirmed. “They were transferred to emergency medical services for evaluation.”
