Tragedy on Sunrise Highway: Mastic Beach Man Struck and Killed While Crossing Road in Blue Point

Suffolk County Police Fifth Squad detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash that killed a pedestrian in Bluepoint last night.
 
Adam Polis was driving a 2015 Ford Mustang eastbound in the left lane of Sunrise Highway, west of Waverly Avenue, when he observed three people in the roadway and swerved to the right to try to avoid them at approximately 8:35 p.m. The vehicle struck Carlos Villafane who was in the center lane.
 
Villafane, 69, of Mastic Beach, was pronounced dead at the scene. Polis, 36, of Patchogue, the other two pedestrians, and a passenger in the Mustang were not injured.
 
The vehicle was impounded for a safety check. Anyone with information is asked to call the Fifth Squad at 631-854-8552.
