Business Insurance, the prestigious industry magazine published by Crain Communications, has selected, honored, and profiled RMI Consulting President MaryAnn Sackman of Sands Point, NY, as one of the magazine's 2011 Women to Watch. The 25 women selected are high profile business leaders across commercial insurance, including risk management, specialty risk, employee benefits and related fields such as law and consulting.
Business Insurance published profiles of the honorees in its magazine and the honorees gathered at the Hilton Hotel in New York City for an award luncheon with iconic feminist Gloria Steinem as the keynote speaker. This month the magazine posts video interviews of Ms. Sackman and other awardees at its website: www.businessinsurance.com
Ms. Sackman co-founded RMI in 1980 as a risk management firm specializing in on-site consulting to effect strategies for minimizing client liability. She spearheaded formation of the company's successful Risk Purchasing Group division, aligning industry-specific clients for group purchasing power of comprehensive coverage. RMI represents a worldwide clientele, including a pharmaceutical company, supermarket chain, and theatrical production companies. In 2010, RMI consolidated its assets with Wright Risk Management (WRM America).
Business Insurance rightly points out that insurance has been a male-dominated industry, said Ms. Sackman. But with programs like Women to Watch and a greater recognition of the contributions of women generally, insurance should become a more attractive and fruitful career choice for women.
Ms. Sackman has been recognized as a Top Influential Woman by Long Island Business News and recipient of industry distinction by the New York Real Estate Journal. She serves on the boards of St. Mary's Healthcare System for Children and the Long Island Chapter of the March of Dimes.
