Weather Alert

LIGHT SNOW AND SPOTTY LIGHT FREEZING RAIN POSSIBLE THIS EVENING As temperatures slowly rise this evening, light snow should quickly change over to rain across Long Island, New York City and the suburbs just north and west, and across coastal and southeastern Connecticut, with at least a coating of accumulation, and as much as an inch farther away from the coast. As precipitation mixes with and changes to rain, road temperatures in these areas may still be below freezing even as air temperatures slowly rise to the mid and upper 30s, and a light glaze of ice may be possible on untreated surfaces. So plan on slippery conditions this evening even as temperatures slowly rise.

Mastic Beach, New York - William Floyd elementary students, Adele and Hayley, were very surprised to see their dad PFC Adam Phillips walk into a classroom at the John S. Hobart Elementary School on December 22, 2011.

Eight months ago, he enlisted in the Army. This was his first visit back home.

Because Adele is in kindergarten and Hayley is a third grader, the classroom teachers created a special situation so the kindergarten and third grade students would be together to discuss how families sometimes were apart because of distance or job responsibilities.

When, what to Adele and Hayley's wondering eyes did appear, but their dad, home from the Army, all dressed in his Army gear. It was a touching moment. Both daughters were speechless. They just wanted to hug their dad.

PFC Phillips said, "It's good to be home. And, even though it's only for a short period of time, I will love every minute of it because I'm with my girls."
