William Floyd Elementary Students Take the Safety Patrol Pledge

A group of fifth-grade students at William Floyd Elementary School have taken the School Safety Patrol oath to help teachers and administrators maintain a safe environment and act as role models for their younger peers.

Shirley, NY - November 20th, 2014 -  A group of fifth-grade students at William Floyd Elementary School have taken the School Safety Patrol oath to help teachers and administrators maintain a safe environment and act as role models for their younger peers. Students were selected to join the Safety Patrol based upon their demonstration of outstanding character and leadership. They were assisted in their swearing in by Madison Mentz, now a sixth grader at William Floyd Middle School, last year’s captain and the New York State Safety Patroller of the Year (2013-2014).

Members of the 2014-2015 William Floyd Elementary AAA Safety Patrol are: Felicia Morgenstond, Captain; Tanisha Siddeque, Lieutenant; Kenny Schneider, Sergeant; and Officers Jared Diaz; Anna Foley; Allen Jiang; Ian Hua; Richard Goslin; Natalia Furchel; Samantha Towle; Hamnah Irfan; Jack McDermott; Dylan Cordoba; William Winter; Ryan Buchleitner; Amerida Muniz; and Belle Holbrook.

The AAA School Safety Patrol program began in 1920 and consists of more than 500,000 members in more than 50,000 schools throughout North America. Former Safety Patrol members include U.S. Presidents Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton; Nobel Prize-winning economist Gary S. Becker; former Supreme Court Chief Justice Warren E. Burger; baseball Hall of Famer Joe Garagiola; 21 astronauts including Mary Ellen Weber; Olympic gold medalist Lynette Woodard (basketball); Diane Steed, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and more.
