West Babylon, NY - September 19, 2017 - The 5th Annual “Give Kids a Smile” Back to School Day took place on August 29, 2017 at the Stony Brook School of Dental Medicine’s Dental Care Center. The event was attended by over 120 children and their families. The children came to the Dental Care Center to receive free dental screenings, prophys, fluoride treatment, oral health education/home care and were encouraged to find a dentist and dental insurance. The providers were fourth and third year dental students, pediatric residents, supervised by clinic faculty.
Long Island McDonald’s has been a sponsor of Stony Brook University’s “Give Kids a Smile” Back to School Day for 5 years now, providing all of the children with a certificate for a free Happy Meal with any purchase. Ronald McDonald also made an appearance in the lobby, as well as walking through the clinic, saying hello and giving out smiley faces. Along with longtime supporter and sponsor of the event Henry Schein Cares, Island Federal Credit Union joined this year as a sponsor and provided each child with a back pack.

“We look forward to being a part of “Give Kids a Smile” programs across Long Island each year, as we’re encouraging good dental hygiene and rewarding the children - many of whom are underserved - with a meal. Giving back to the community has always been an important component of who we are”, says Luciana Montuoro, LI McDonald's Marketing & PR Director.
What made this year even more special is that Stony Brook University School of Dental Medicine has inscribed Long Island McDonald’s on their donor wall to acknowledge its continued support for the event. The donor plaque states:

Lloyd Frazier was a McDonald’s owner operator of the Chambers Street McDonald’s in Manhattan recognized for saving a police officer’s life when the towers came crumbling down and the streets were engulfed by blackness. He opened the door to his store, and pulled the officer in. His store became known as “Hotel McDonald’s” where hundreds of fire fighters would find refuge and lay to rest on the floor, and throughout the store.

The mobile unit outside where his store was located, which was manned by McDonald’s owner and operators and employees volunteering their time, served over 700,000 meals. McDonald’s became the beacon of shining light in downtown Manhattan, at our darkest hour. Long Island McDonald’s is proud to honor his memory. Following in Lloyd’s foot-steps is his son Steven Frazier, a Long Island McDonald’s owner and operator.
