July 23, 2013 - Centereach, NY - Legislator John M. Kennedy, Jr., Minority Leader of the Suffolk County Legislature honored the Little Dragons Chinese School for outstanding intercultural education on Friday, July 19, 2013. The school is run by the Taiwanese American Association on Long Island (TAALI). Students have been learning not only language, but traditional customs and arts which culminated in a celebration in the Banquet Hall of the Centereach Fire Department on Friday. Performances included such traditions as performing the Taiko Drum (picture below), calligraphy, origami, Chinese Yo-Yo, and the traditional Asian feather fan dance

“I must commend TAALI for its work in cultural education through the Little Dragons Chinese School. Aside from being talented and entertaining, it is evident that the students worked hard to learn these many new skills,” said Legislator Kennedy. “I would also like to applaud the instructors and teachers who strive to teach, share, and give this valued heritage a stronger presence on Long Island,” added Kennedy.
