Legislator Browning Urges Families to Help Disadvantaged Children.

Mastic, NY - February 27, 2014 - Legislator Kate Browning (WF-Shirley) is urging Suffolk County families to join other Long Island families in opening their homes and hearts to a New York City child from a disadvantaged community. The Fresh Air Fund has been helping children each year since 1877, by allowing thousands of Fresh Air Fund children visit volunteer host families in 13 states and Canada through the Friendly Town Program.

The program is seeking volunteer host families who would be willing to open their hearts and home to give city children from low-income communities an experience they'll never forget. Children ages 6-12 stay for one to two weeks and are eager to experience the simple life our community has to offer - stargazing, running barefoot in the grass, a day at the beach, or swimming in a pool.

“The Fresh Air Fund is a wonderful opportunity to provide a disadvantaged child an experience not afforded to them in their local community,” stated Legislator Browning. “We don’t always appreciate our wonderful communities here in Suffolk County, and this is a way to share everything Suffolk County has to offer with someone who would normally be unable to take advantage of it at home.”
